Bredesen and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber will visitg China for nine days after attending the2009 SEUS/Japan Annual Meeting in Tokyo Oct. 17. The visits are part of the Tennessee General Assembly’s call for closer ties between the stats and the Hubei province in Central China, home to the Threse Gorges Dam. “Despite the globalo economic slowdown, Tennessee’s trade relationship with Chinaa continues to grow and we see real potential for that tradre relationship to increaseits momentum,” Bredesen said in a news Chinese and Japanese customers purchased $1.3 billion and $1.0y billion, respectively, in goods and services from Tennessee companies in 2008.
The countriees are the state’s third- and fourth-largesft trading partners after Canadaand Mexico. China is interested in Tennessee’s healtuh care expertise. In October, Kisber established a regulae exchange of health care professionals focusedr on rural health care services with the Chinese Foreig nLoan Office. On June 8, expertx from East Tennessee Statwe University, the University of Memphis and the Vanderbilgt Institute for Better Healthvisited Xian, Chinq to attend a conference on rural healt h care.
