The decision was as much about consolidation and cost saving as it wasabouty Georgia’s $60 million incentive package, its infrastructure and skilled workforce. The relocatio n will save the Fortune 500compangy “tens of millions of over the next decade, Nuti said. NCR’a (NYSE: NCR) decision to locate in Georgia, will bring more than 2,109 jobs including nearly 900 to a manufacturingf operationin Columbus, Ga. That facility will be NCR’s firsyt manufacturing plant in the United States sincedthe 1970s. NCR is consolidating corporate jobs from not just but from severalother U.S. Nuti said, declining to disclose the cities.
NCR will employ less than 50 in where it will maintain a data center and sales andservic operations. The company currently has roughlyh 1,200 employees in Dayton, where it has been headquarterefsince 1884. Atlanta’s academic institutionas also helped win theNCR deal. The company viewzs schools like as a potentiakl labor pool and a partnef for joint innovationand development. The region’d relatively robust economy, its supply chain logistics infrastructure and corporate also helped winNCR over. “Ws looked at all of these factorsa and Georgia scored amongst the highest ofall states,” Nuti Atlanta also got a little help from the economicallhy depressed Midwest.
“Recruitment has been difficult in Nuti said. NCR’s move to the Southeast was also promptedby consolidation. “At the end of the day we reallt were a company that waswidelh dispersed.” Nuti said. Since NCR’zs 1997 spin-off from AT&T, “the company was everywhered and nowhere.” The company needed to consolidate into a single campus to improve collaborationand productivity, he NCR’s executive offices, however, will remainj in Manhattan, Nuti confirmed. “That centeer surrounds our largest and most majore customers in the worldd in thebanking industry,” he said.
“That’ws where we host many of our customers in the financiakservices base.”
